· Selected, results to come

Money and know-how for City Hall

On October 15, Bloomberg Philanthropies announced a housing initiative for U.S. city halls. Miami is among the first 14 cities, across 12 states. Each gets between $450,000 and $750,000, plus expert support, to replicate at least one proven approach.

“We expect fast results, measured in more homes cleared for construction,” Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins said.

Why it matters · Our view

In Miami, the slow part of building homes is often the paperwork, not the construction. If this speeds up permits or reopens stalled projects, it could bring more supply in a city where prices keep climbing. The test is simple to watch: more homes approved, and faster.
