Broward orders 65 hybrid buses, with delivery planned for 2028
· Order confirmed October 27, 2026
New Flyer, a leading North American maker of city buses, has confirmed that Broward County Transit, the county’s public bus service, ordered 65 hybrid-electric buses to replace older vehicles, with deliveries planned during 2028.

Transportation update
New buses for an aging fleet
The buses are Xcelsior hybrid-electric models: they combine an engine with an electric drive system, so they are not fully electric. The order was already in New Flyer’s books in the spring of 2026 and is paid for with local money and federal transit grants.

Why it’s good, in plain words: newer buses usually break down less, use less fuel and are more comfortable, which helps keep service reliable for the people who ride them every day. For neighborhoods, dependable public transit is part of what makes a place easy to live in.

What it means for Miami · Our view
A short update: fleet replacement is the quiet, everyday work that keeps public transit running. It does not announce new routes or more frequent service.
Still to be confirmed
