Boca Raton’s ModMed puts its co-founder in charge of AI, with a new platform planned for 2027
· Announced October 28, 2026
ModMed, a Boca Raton company whose software runs the day-to-day work of specialty medical practices, has made co-founder Dan Cane its first Chief AI Officer, and plans a new AI platform for the medical front desk in 2027.

Health tech × AI
AI for the work around the doctor’s visit
Cane and Joe Harpaz had shared the role of co-CEO for about three years. Harpaz is now sole Chief Executive Officer, and Cane leads AI strategy across ModMed’s products and internal operations.
The company plans to roll out an AI platform in 2027 for the front office: scheduling, patient messages and administrative tasks. It is a plan, not a product available today, and it is about office work, not medical decisions.

Why it’s good, in plain words: medical offices spend a lot of time on phone calls, forms and scheduling. If AI takes on part of that work, staff can focus more on patients. And a South Florida company leading in health-care software strengthens the region as a health-tech hub.
